Craig Miller
Craig Alan Miller of Kapa‘a died at Wilcox Memorial Hospital on July 31, 2007, at the age of 34.
Born in Indianapolis, Ind., on Feb. 10, 1973, he was in partnership with his father Larry, in the operation of the plant rental business of Sasaki Plants. Craig provided interior plants to many places on Kaua‘i, including Wilcox Memorial Hospital, Brennecke’s Restaurant, King Auto Center, and many others. He took his little dog Daisy with him everywhere and both were beloved at all his accounts.
He is survived by his companion Kristie Madden; sons Avery, Joshua, and Emerson Miller; stepson Griffin Madden; father Larry Lee (Gaye) Miller; mother Jo Anne McGrath; sisters Emily Miller and Angela Miller Warnock; brothers Dan and Dusty Miller; grandparents Harold and Janet Miller; and uncle Dean Miller.
A fund has been established at American Savings Bank in memory of Craig for his children. Donations may be made payable to American Savings Bank, c/o Craig Miller Memorial Fund, P.O. Box 2300, Honolulu, HI 96804.
Private services were held. Kauai Memorial Gardens and Funeral Home assisted the Miller family with arrangements.
Yukie I. Fujimoto
Yukie I. Fujimoto, of Lihu‘e, died at Garden Isle Healthcare in Lihu‘e on Aug. 4, 2007, at the age of 86.
Born in Lihu‘e on Aug. 14, 1920, she was a floral instructor and also a custodian with the state government.
She is survived by two sons Gilbert (Judy) Fujimoto of Pasadena, Calif., and Calvin (Anne) Fujimoto of Corvallis, Ore.; five grandchildren; brother Hisao Ishimoto; two sisters, Linda (Carl) Schumacher and Betty (Jack) Hayase. Services were private.
Arrangements are being handled by Garden Island Mortuary, Ltd.
Isamu Kato
Isamu Kato of Kaumakani died at his home on July 24, 2007, at the age of 87.
Born in Kaumakani on June 22, 1920, he was a mechanic with Olokele Sugar Company; also a veteran of the United States Army 552nd Field Artillery Battalion.
He is survived by his nephew and caregiver, Ford (Noelle) Kimura of Waimea; three brothers, Kiyoshi (Evie) Kato, Mitsuru (Judy) Kato, both of Honolulu, O‘ahu, and Ralph (Karen) Kato of Los Angeles, Calif.; sister Hatsuko Kimura of Waimea; two sisters-in-law, Kikue Kato of Kalaheo and Mae Kato of Los Angeles, Calif.; nieces and nephews. Services were private.

Evelyn Mitsue Estrada
Evelyn Mitsue Oyakawa Estrada of Hanama‘ulu, died July 28, 2007, at her home at the age of 84.
Born May 28, 1923, on Kaua‘i, she was a retired assistant housekeeper for Coco Palms.
Preceded in death by her son Ronald Cardinez, she is survived by four daughters, Frances Bunao of Hanama‘ulu, Caroline (Burt) Gonsalves of California, Lydia (Tash) Castillo of California, and Alicia Estrada of Hanama‘ulu; two sons, Clarence (Carmen) Cardinez of California, Michael Cardinez of Hanama‘ulu; sister Naeko Pablo of Kaumakani; 16 grandchildren, 21 great-grandchildren; four great-great-grandchildren, several nieces and nephews.
Friends may visit with the family on Saturday, Aug. 11, from 9:30 a.m. to 10:15 a.m. at Borthwick Kaua‘i Mortuary Chapel, where services will be celebrated at 10:30 a.m. Burial to follow at Kaua‘i Memorial Gardens.
Casual attire is suggested. Arrangements are being handled by Borthwick Kauai Mortuary.
Kathy Rae Sass
Kathy Rae Sass of Kilauea, formerly of Morgan Hill, died on July 1, 2007, at Good Samaritan Hospital in San Jose, Calif., with her family by her side. She lost her 3 1/2 year battle with breast cancer that had metastasized to her liver.
Kathy was born on Jan. 23, 1942, in Cherokee, IA. She was a graduate of the University of South Dakota at Vermillion with a BS Degree in microbiology. She moved to California shortly after graduation and worked at San Jose Medical Center, Alexian Brothers, Good Samaritan and St. Louise hospitals until her retirement in 2006. She and her husband Lee have lived in Morgan Hill since 1977. While there, she was active in the Morgan Hill branch of the American Association of University Women (AAUW), where she served two terms as president, as well as numerous terms on their board of directors. She and her husband moved from Morgan Hill to her dream home in Kilauea on Kaua‘i, in April 2006. While here, she volunteered at the Kilauea Point Lighthouse/National Wildlife Refuge and the Hawaiian Monk Seal Conservation Hui. She was also active in local bridge groups, photography and craft fairs.
She is survived by her husband Lee of Kilauea, her son Jeffrey of Sheboygan, WI, her mother Adeline Wright of Mankato, MN and her brother Charles Wright of Madison Lake, MN. She will be missed by her daughter-in-law Tamara and grandchildren, Emily and Lucas Sass.
A memorial service was held at Johnson Funeral Home in Morgan Hill. Another memorial service will be Saturday, Aug. 11, at 4 p.m. at The Church of the Pacific in Princeville.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made in Kathleen’s honor to the American Cancer Society.
Pedro Dugay
Pedro Ramil Dugay of Kilauea, died Aug. 4, 2007, at Wilcox Memorial Hospital at the age of 57.
Born Dec. 16, 1949, in Bacarra, Ilocos Norte, Philippines, he was a golf groundsman at Princeville and a fisherman in Alaska.
He is survived by his wife Felicitas Gabbac Dugay, daughter Precilla (Moises) Perez, sons James Dugay and Jason Dugay, granddaughter Kayla Isabel Perez, sisters Salvacion Bolo, Jesusa Cadelinia, Bernarda Dugay, Florentina Acob, Nenita Bergonia, and Adelina (William) Constantino; brothers Rizalino (Juanita) Dugay and Emil (Lilia) Dugay; and numerous nieces and nephews.
Services will be held at 10 a.m. on Saturday, Aug. 18, at Borthwick Kauai Mortuary with burial to follow at 11 a.m.
