Daniel R. Costa
Daniel R. Costa, of Kalaheo, passed away at his home on Aug. 5, 2007, at the age of 83. Born in Kalaheo on June 16, 1924, he was a power plant operator with Kauai Electric.
He is survived by his wife Dorothy; sons Wayne (Dawn) Costa of ‘Oma‘o and Howard (Laurie Arrisgado) Costa of Lihu‘e; daughter Cynthia Shimogawa of Puhi; four grandchildren, Shantelle (Eugemar) Manibog of Lihu‘e, Duane Shimogawa Jr. of Kalispell, Mont., Calvin and Sheldon Costa, both of ‘Oma‘o; one great-grandson, Cody Kendan Manibog of Lihu‘e; brother James Costa of Lihu‘e; numerous nieces, nephews and cousins.
Friends may visit with the family from 4 p.m. to 5 p.m. on Friday, Aug. 10, at Holy Cross Catholic Church in Kalaheo; Mass officiated by Father Nap will begin at 5 p.m. Casual attire is suggested.
Arrangements are being handled by Garden Island Mortuary.
Pedro Dugay
Pedro Ramil Dugay of Kilauea, died Aug. 4, 2007, at Wilcox Memorial Hospital at the age of 57.
Born Dec. 16, 1949, in Bacarra, Ilocos Norte, Philippines, he was a golf groundsman at Princeville and a fisherman in Alaska.
He is survived by his wife Felicitas Gabbac Dugay, daughter Precilla (Moises) Perez, sons James Dugay and Jason Dugay, granddaughter Kayla Isabel Perez, sisters Salvacion Bolo, Jesusa Cadelinia, Bernarda Dugay, Florentina Acob, Nenita Bergonia, and Adelina (William) Constantino; brothers Rizalino (Juanita) Dugay and Emil (Lilia) Dugay; and numerous nieces and nephews.
Friends may visit with the family from 8:30 a.m. to 10:30 a.m. on Saturday, Aug. 18, at St. Sylvester’s Church in Kilauea, where Mass will be celebrated at 10:30 a.m. Burial will follow.
Arrangements are being handled by Borthwick Kauai Mortuary.
Dorothy Hamernick
Dorothy Katherine Hamernick, of Kalaheo, died at Wilcox Hospital on Aug. 6, 2007, at the age of 87.
Born in Santa Ana, Calif., on April 27, 1920, she was an only child. She is survived by three daughters, Sally (Mike) Lott of Colorado, Peggy (Mitch) Sowl of Kalaheo and Pat Hamernick of Las Vegas; seven grandchildren; five great-grandchildren; and cousins. Services are private.
Arrangements are being handled by Garden Island Mortuary, Ltd.
Stephen A. Faunce
Stephen A. Faunce of Kaua‘i and Minneapolis, MN, died at home on Aug. 7, 2007, at the age of 69.
Described as a wonderful husband, brother, father, friend and grandfather who will be forever remembered and missed, he is survived by his wife Margee Faunce; siblings Sue McGreevey and Bill Faunce; friends across the country; children Jeff Faunce, Dave Faunce, Mike Johnson, and Christine D’Amico as well as all of their spouses and children.
Memorial services will be held at 11 a.m. on Saturday, Aug. 11th at St. Mary’s Episcopal Church, 1895 Laurel Ave., St. Paul, MN 55104. An additional memorial service will be held at St. Michael’s Episcopal Church on Kaua‘i later this year. Steve was committed to reading with children at his local elementary school. Evelyn Mitsue Estrada
Evelyn Mitsue Oyakawa Estrada of Hanama‘ulu, died July 28, 2007, at her home at the age of 84.
Born May 28, 1923, on Kaua‘i, she was a retired assistant housekeeper for Coco Palms.
Preceded in death by her son Ronald Cardinez, she is survived by four daughters, Frances Bunao of Hanama‘ulu, Caroline (Burt) Gonsalves of California, Lydia (Tash) Castillo of California, and Alicia Estrada of Hanama‘ulu; two sons Clarence (Carmen) Cardinez of California, Michael Cardinez of Hanama‘ulu; sister Naeko Pablo of Kaumakani; 16 grandchildren, 21 great-grandchildren; four great-great-grandchildren, several nieces and nephews.
Friends may visit with the family on Saturday, Aug. 11, from 9:30 a.m. to 10:15 a.m. at Borthwick Kaua‘i Mortuary Chapel, where services will be celebrated at 10:30 a.m. Burial to follow at Kaua‘i Memorial Gardens.
