The Global Christian Surf Mission will host internationally renowned reggae band Mark Mohr and Christafari (pronounced Christ-ah-far-eye). They have performed at two Olympic Games. With their blend of traditional roots and contemporary dance hall reggae, they proclaim a positive message of hope and salvation. Mohr and Christafari bring their own unique brand of gospel reggae to nearly every state in the U.S. and some thirty-five countries around the world.
In 2006, Mohr received a lifetime achievement award for his significant contributions to Caribbean gospel music. Christafari received four Marlin Award nominations, five Urban Gospel Industry Award nominations and were nominated for Best Reggae Album by the En Sound Music Awards.

Live Polynesian entertainment, silent auction, live music, door prizes, arts, crafts and authentic Hawaiian fare will benefit the LaFrance Foundation, which was established to support educational programs on Kaua‘i.
The foundation’s mission is to provide scholarship opportunities for students who wish to make a positive impact in their lives and their community.
Founded in 2007, the foundation believes that Kaua‘i students, aided by a financial and educational support system, will attain success at an early age and become confident, competent and caring individuals who will in turn give back to their community.
The LaFrance Foundation was established in 2007 in memory of LaFrance Kapaka-Arboleda of Anahola. For tickets call Donavan at 246-1564. Tickets are $15 and free for keiki under 5 years old.

children’s story

at the Kaua‘i Museum
In 2001 Kaua‘i pediatrician Dr. Carolan wrote his first children’s book. His wife, Kaua‘i artist Joanna Carolan painted all the illustrations for it. Then they tried to figure out how to get their book published. It took them some time, but in 2002 they accomplished their goal. They have now completed and published five children’s books, three of which have won awards for excellence.
The couple will give a talk at the Kaua‘i Museum about the process of writing, illustrating and publishing their children’s books. They will share how they take their books from an idea to a finished product. Come and learn about publishing books in Hawai‘i and on the Mainland. They will be available to talk story and answer questions and sign books. Books will be available at the museum for sale and book signing. For more information call 245-6931. This year the Alzheimer’s Association-Aloha Chapter’s annual fundraising gala will celebrate Hollywood stars. Attendees are invited to dress up like their favorite star for an evening of elegance, gourmet food and entertainment. The funds raised through table sales and auction items will benefit the programs and services provided by the Alzheimer’s Association in Hawai‘i. Pamela Young and Gary Sprinkle will emcee the event. The previous three “Arabian Nights” shows have sold out and this new performance is the biggest yet. The show features original choreography by Nina Kirby, spectacular costumes, sword dances, Isis wing choreography and zill playing (finger cymbals).
Emcee Jo Grande will lead the audience in a fun-filled evening for the whole family, a night that will make you want to get up and shimmy. Special guest dancers include Layla Katrina of Maui and the Gypsy Rose Dancers with live drumming. This performance will also introduce favorite local dancer Jericho.
Tickets are $12 advance/$15 at the door; children 12 and under $8.
