The Kaua‘i Museum hosts a free museum day tomorrow. Learn more about the museum’s “Earth, Air, Fire, Water, and Man & Beast” series. Every month one or all of the elements of the theme are the basis for that day’s presentation. This month features the “Hawaiian Monk Seal: Our Endangered Jewel” from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m.
Representing the element of water, members of the DLNR Hawaiian Monk Seal Conservation Hui present discussion on the monk seal’s population and preservation. Their premise is that the only way to save the seals from extinction is education. The more we know about the monk seal, the better they are protected and cared for.
Sculptor Fred Zollinger will bring in a life-size monk seal he sculpted a few years ago to share with visitors.
Learn what is being done to foster growth of the Hawaiian monk seal population and what you can do to help preserve one of the state’s most cherished marine mammals.
