Kira Blackstad-Pimental, Hallie Cristobal, Sandra Akita and Lexi Vasconcelles have earned positions on the Wrangler Junior High rodeo team.
If the four Kaua‘i keiki and high school rodeo competitors decide to participate, they will be competing on June 30 through July 5 in the 4th Annual Wrangler Junior High Finals Rodeo in Gallup, New Mexico.
The event has grown to draw more than 1,000 contestants from 47 states, Canadian provinces and Australia. It is the world’s largest junior high rodeo.
In addition to competing for more than $50,000 in college scholarships, the junior rodeo competitors can earn a share of more than $75,000 in prizes and a chance to be crowned the Wrangler Junior High Finals Rodeo National Champion.
The championship performance will be televised nationally as a part of the “20X Rodeo High” telecast series.

Ouchi aces Puakea 13
Tomoko Ouchi of Koloa used a 7 iron for a hole-in-one at the Puakea Golf Course Hole No. 13, May 7.
Witnesses to the event include Scott Rayno, Clayton Silva and Kurt Javinar.
Ouchi’s only comment following the ace on the 118-yard hole was, “Yeah!”
