Waipa Foundation, along with its partners and funders, is in the process of developing a community kitchen, small-scale poi mill and dining space at Waipa.
These assets will enrich the North Shore and Hawaiian communities economically, socially and culturally. The facilities will provide a venue where community farmers and families can gather to process crops, do fundraising and grow small businesses, perpetuate Hawaiian culture, teach youth, feed and build community.
The Waipa Foundation received funding in support of this project from the Office of Hawaiian Affairs and the Parks Family Fund of the Hawai‘i Community Foundation. OHA’s funding is for $300,000 over two years and is in support of design and construction. The Parks Family Fund donated $35,000 in general support for the project.
Currently the design phase of the project has nearly been completed, with next steps being permitting, raising the remaining construction funds and construction.
Additional funding for this project, for both early stages of the project and ongoing work, was donated or committed over the last two years.
