Cleo Bermoy
Cleo Elizabeth Iaea Bermoy of Kalaheo died Dec. 24, 2008, at Wilcox Memorial Hospital at the age of 77. She was born Jan. 19, 1931, in Honolulu.
She was preceded in death by father Joseph Keanu Iaea Sr., mother Mabel Kahikina Lii, son Wendell Bermoy, sister Mona Arthur, and grandsons Kauhi Simao and Tyrus Simao.
She is survived by husband Henry Bermoy Sr.; sons Henry (Patsy) Bermoy Jr. and Wayne Bermoy, both of Kalaheo; daughters Sandra (Richard) Quinsaat of Kalaheo, Stephanie Bermoy of Kalaheo, Colleen (Paul) Kapu of Kula, Maui, Trudy Silva (William Viernez) of Waikoloa, Big Island, Linda (Paul) Nicholas of England and Charlene (Ernie) Paden of Lawa‘i; brothers Joseph Iaea Jr., Huddy Iaea, Jonah Iaea, Christopher Iaea, Harold Iaea, Lani Iaea and Neki Iaea, all of Honolulu; sisters Nani Trelor of New Jersey, Olivia Miller of Las Vegas and Hedy Mae Iaea of Honolulu; and numerous grandchildren.
Visitation will be held at 9 a.m. on Saturday, Jan. 3, at Garden Island Mortuary Chapel; service begins at 10 a.m. Casual attire is suggested.
Arrangements are being handled by Garden Island Mortuary Ltd.
Cecilia Farias
Cecilia Dorothea DeBusca Farias of Kapa‘a died Dec. 27, 2008, at home at the age of 85. Born July 24, 1923, in Lihu‘e, she retired as a sales clerk with F.W. Woolworth.
She is survived by children William A. (Aileen) Farias of Lihu‘e, Loretta (Clifford) Geis of Wailua Homesteads, Robert J. (Bronwyn) Farias of Kapahi; brother Freddie (Elsie) DeBusca of Lihu‘e; six grandchildren; 10 great-grandchildren; and numerous nieces, nephews and cousins.
Viewing will be held from 8:15 a.m. to 9:30 a.m. during a celebration of her life held on Saturday, Jan. 10, at Immaculate Conception Church; Mass will be celebrated at 10 a.m. Burial will follow at Immaculate Conception Cemetery.
Kauai Memorial Gardens & Funeral Home assisted the Farias family with arrangements.
Joseph Pavao
Joseph Ignacio Pavao of Waimea died Dec. 26, 2008, at St. Rose Hospital in Hayward, Calif., at the age of 94. Born Feb. 17, 1914, in Makaweli, he was retired from Waimea Meadowgold Dairies.
He was preceded in death by parents Manuel Ignacio Pavao and Mary Duarte Pavao; brothers Manuel Pavao, Frank Ignacio of Kekaha, Paul Pavao, John Ignacio Pavao of Hanapepe; sisters Mary Ventura of Kalaheo, Margaret Freidlander, Madeline Black; and great-grandson Darius Yasay.
He is survived by daughters Sylvia Joyce (Tom) Thomason of Waimea, Janice Pavao Belen of San Francisco, Calif.; five grandchildren; nine great-grandchildren; one great-great-granddaughter; sister Beatrice Medeiros of Santa Clara, Calif.; and numerous nieces, nephews and cousins.
A memorial service on Kaua‘i is pending.
Alfredo Garces
Alfredo Cabebe Garces Sr. of Kealia died Dec. 19, 2008, at Wilcox Memorial Hospital at the age of 88. He was born in Narvacan Ilocos Sur, Philippines, and retired from the Lihue Sugar Plantation as a mechanic.
He was preceded in death by brothers Rufo (Consuelo) Garces, Cipriano (Maria) Garces and Marcelo Garces; and sister Eugenia Garces.
He is survived by wife Crescensia Garces of Kealia; children Avelina (Rodrigo) Visitacion of Seattle, Wash., Alfredo (Jacqueline) Garces Jr. of Wailua, Jovita Garces of Kealia, Edwin (Dolly) Garces of Kealia; sister-in-law Ceceria Garces; 10 grandchildren; one great-grandchild; and numerous nieces and nephews.
Visitation will be held from 8 a.m. to 10:45 a.m. during a celebration of his life held on Saturday, Jan. 10, at Kauai War Memorial Convention Hall; services begin at 11 a.m. Burial will follow at Kauai Memorial Gardens.

Dee Ann Uchida
Dee Ann Eiko Uchida died Sept. 16, 2008, in Tualatin, Ore., at the age of 55.
Born in Lihu‘e, she was a nutrition services payroll specialist for the Portland Public Schools.
She was preceded in death by mother Sachie Uchida.
She is survived by father Michiyuki Uchida, brothers Alvin (Susan) Uchida and Barry (Cheryl) Uchida, nephew Nick Uchida, niece Maile Uchida, numerous aunts, uncles, and cousins.
A celebration of her life will begin with visitation from 9 a.m. to 10 a.m. on Saturday, Jan. 10, at Lihue Christian Church. Services will follow at 10 a.m.
