Dee Ann Uchida
Dee Ann Eiko Uchida died Sept. 16, 2008, in Tualatin, Ore., at age 55.
Born in Lihu‘e, she was a nutrition services payroll specialist for the Portland Public Schools.
She was preceded in death by mother Sachie Uchida.
She is survived by father Michiyuki Uchida, brothers Alvin (Susan) Uchida and Barry (Cheryl) Uchida, nephew Nick Uchida, niece Maile Uchida, numerous aunts, uncles, and cousins.
A celebration of her life will begin with visitation from 9 to 10 a.m., Jan. 10, at Lihu‘e Christian Church. Services will follow at 10 a.m.
Elizabeth Kamala
Elizabeth “Cubby” Jane Kamala of Kapa‘a died Dec. 20, 2008, at her residence in Kapa‘a at age 55. Born in California, she was a retired nurse at Wilcox Memorial Hospital.
She was preceded in death by sister Beverly Simpson and brother William Hobart Simpson Jr.
She is survived by parents William Hobart and Billie Jeanne Simpson, daughter Ursula (David) Torres, son James Langtad and sister Bonnie (Will) Berndt.
A celebration of life will be held at noon, Jan. 18, at ‘Anini Beach.
Leonila Degracia
Leonila Rabasto Degracia of Lihu‘e died Dec. 31, 2008, at Wilcox Memorial Hospital at age 59.
Born Jan. 29, 1949, in Paco Manilla, Philippines, she was a homemaker.
She was preceded in death by father Mario Rabasto.
She is survived by husband Paterno A. Degracia Sr.; daughters Edna (Jun Morden) Degracia of Lihu‘e, Eleonore Degracia of California, Estephany Degracia of Lihu‘e, Ellen (Jeff) France of California; sons Arnold Rabasto of the Philippines, Paterno (Jacquelin) Degracia Jr. of Honolulu; stepchildren Bernard Degracia, Nicomendes Degracia, Crispin Degracia, Lily Degracia; siblings Hermes Rabasto, Evelyn Mauari, Charito De Gresp, Roger Rabasto, Susan Rabasto, Lucy Cruz and Neua Carino, all of the Philippines; and 10 grandchildren.
Private services will be held.
Kauai Memorial Gardens & Funeral Home assisted the Degracia family with arrangements.
Oliver Kaneakua
Oliver Kimo Kaneakua died Dec. 12, 2008, at Wilcox Memorial Hospital surrounded by his family and friends, at age 51.
Born July 10, 1957, in Honolulu, he owned Hoapili Woods in Puhi.
He was preceded in death by parents Espidado Monces and Eloise ‘Ululani Oclit, brother Fendel Oclit, and grandparents James and Louise Kaneakua.
He is survived by children Kapua, Nic and Moku Kaneakua of Anahola; grandchildren Zoey Keli‘ipio Kanekua and Zephan Keli‘ipio Kaneakua of Wailua; daughter-in-law Mahina Keli‘ipio Kanekua of Wailua; father Daddy Ding Oclit of Kapa‘a; mother Mama Melinda Monces of San Fernando, Calif.; sisters Ginger Kaneakua of Honolulu, Donna (Bobby) Hoopii of Wailua, Tracy Monces of Dana Point, Calif., and Frankie Oclit of Kapa‘a; brothers Keoua Kanekua of Lana‘i, Jimmy (Marlo) Yap of Kapa‘a, Jonathan and Ding Boy Oclit of Kapa‘a; sweetheart Lee Ann Correa of Koloa; mother of children, Nalani Kaneakua of Anahola; hanai son Kevin Wilson of Anahola; godchildren Keawe Higa of Kapa‘a and Ho‘onakoa Rivera of Kapa‘a; and numerous uncles, aunts, nephews, nieces, cousins and beloved friends.
Services will be from 9:30 to 11 a.m., Jan. 17, at the First Hawaiian Church in Kapa‘a; scattering of ashes to follow in front of the Beach House (residence of Papa Ding Oclit). Casual attire is requested. Flowers and lei are welcomed.

Alfredo Garces
Alfredo Cabebe Garces Sr. of Kealia died Dec. 19, 2008, at Wilcox Memorial Hospital at age 88.
He was born in Narvacan Ilocos Sur, Philippines, and retired from the Lihue Sugar Plantation as a mechanic.
He was preceded in death by brothers Rufo (Consuelo) Garces, Cipriano (Maria) Garces and Marcelo Garces; and sister Eugenia Garces.
He is survived by wife Crescensia Garces of Kealia; children Avelina (Rodrigo) Visitacion of Seattle, Wash., Alfredo (Jacqueline) Garces Jr. of Wailua, Jovita Garces of Kealia, Edwin (Dolly) Garces of Kealia; sister-in-law Ceceria Garces; 10 grandchildren; one great-grandchild; and numerous nieces and nephews.
Visitation will be from 8 to 10:45 a.m. during a celebration of his life on Jan. 10, at Kaua‘i War Memorial Convention Hall. Services begin at 11 a.m. Burial will follow at Kaua‘i Memorial Gardens.
