Kumao Higashi of ‘Ele‘ele died Aug. 23, 2009, at Hale Kupuna at age 97. Born Jan. 7, 1912, in Makaweli, he was a retired customer service representative with Kaua‘i Electric.
He is survived by sons Robert (Kazue) Higashi of Sacramento, Calif., Clarence (Lilibeth) Higashi of Lihu‘e and Dennis (Aileen) Higashi of Lihu‘e; daughter Penelope (James) Chen of Taiwan; nine grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren; sister-in-law Mitsue Tamekazu of Kalaheo; and numerous nieces and nephews.
Services were private and the family requests no monetary gifts.
Arrangements are being handled by Garden Island Mortuary Ltd.
