Phyllis Saito
Phyllis Maria Texeira Saito, 64, of Lihu‘e, Kaua’i, passed away unexpectedly at Straub Hospital on Dec 8, 2011. She was born on April 13, 1947, in Lihu‘e. Phyllis was a retired purchasing agent.
She was preceded in death by husband Larry Saito, mother Olga Delostrico Texeira, father Antone J. Texeira and brother Anthony Texeira.
She is survived by her sisters Melinda (Donald) Puschin of Honolulu, Priscilla Texeira of Honolulu, Katherine Mata of Kaua‘i, and Veronica Texeira of Kaua‘i; niece Michelle Carvalho of Kaua‘i; nephews Michael and Anthony Chock, both of Kaua‘i; grandnieces Alyssa Carvalho and Nicole Carvalho, and grandnephews Marcus Carvalho and Micah Carvalho.
Services and Celebration of Life: Wednesday, Jan. 11, at Immaculate Conception Catholic Church in Kapaia, Kaua’i, with visitation at 8 a.m. and mass at 9:45 a.m. A Celebration of Life Reception will be held from 3 p.m. to 4:30 p.m. at Gaylord’s at Kilohana, Puhi, Kaua‘i.

Hirabayashi
Toshiyuki Hirabayashi passed away peacefully in Burlingame, Calif., on Jan. 1, 2012, at age 96. He was born in Irvington (now Fremont), Calif., on Feb. 9, 1915. He resided on Kauai from 1954 through 2004, when he and his wife moved to Burlingame.
He was principal at Ko’olau Elementary, Kaumakani Elementary, Kekaha Elementary, and Waimea High and Elementary Schools. He was a curriculum specialist in the district office prior to his retirement in 1977.
He is survived by his wife of 66 years, Midori; son, Glen (Donna) Hirabayashi and their daughters, Ashley and Amy; son, Dean (Debby) Hirabayashi and their children, Kristin and Michael; daughter, Joan (Richard) Reichard and their daughters, Midori (Jason) Sliger and Aiko Reichard; son, Mark Hirabayashi; great granddaughter Evangeline Sliger and sister Mary Sakai.
Services were held.
Zachary Caberto
Zachary Keahi Kamoi Caberto of Kapa‘a, Kaua‘i, passed away on Dec. 31, 2011, at Samuel Mahelona Hospital at the age of 23. He was born on Dec. 24, 1988, in Lihu‘e, Kaua‘i. He was a tile setter for Flooring Innovations.
He was preceded in death by grandparents Juan “Carlos” Caberto, Gregoria “Gloria” Caberto and Harbor Lampl.
He is survived by his father, Leroy Caberto of Kapahi; mother, Mary Lampl Kaneakua of O‘ahu; sisters, Caitlyn (Kevin) Caberto of Kalihiwai; Kyra (Skyler) Caberto of Kalaheo;
Alex, Jade, Saphire and Rachel all of Oahu; brother, Wendell Kai Kaneakua of Oahu ; grandmother, Dorothy Lampl of New Mexico; companion, Tisha Learned, and numerous uncles, aunties, cousins and friends.
A celebration of life will be held on Thursday, Jan. 12, at Immaculate Conception Catholic Church, Kapaia. Visitation will be held at 9 a.m., and mass is to be celebrated at 10 a.m. Scattering of ashes to follow at Kealia Bay

Flora Cortez
Flora Nunes Cortez of Lihu‘e died at home on Dec. 30, 2011, at the age of 78. Born in South Kona, Hawai‘i on Sept. 26, 1933, she retired as a waitress from Tip Top Café.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Daniel Hadir Cortez, and daughter, Florenda Jean Cortez.
She is survived by her son, Dennis Cortez; her daughter, Peggy Salba-Honnet; six grandchildren, six great grandchildren, one great-great grandchild; and numerous nieces, nephews and cousins.
A celebration of her life will be held on Saturday, Jan. 14, at Aloha Church with visitation at 10 a.m. and services celebrated at 10:30 a.m. .
Kaua‘i Memorial Gardens & Funeral Home assisted the Cortez family with arrangements.
