WAIPOULI — There were no incentives for the employees of the Sheraton Kaua‘i Coconut Beach Resort except to give from the heart, said the resort’s Director of Human Resources Bryan Holladay on Wednesday when the Hawai‘i Foodbank Kaua‘i team picked up the results of the resort’s Food Fund Drive that concluded on Jan. 19.
WAIPOULI — There were no incentives for the employees of the Sheraton Kaua‘i Coconut Beach Resort except to give from the heart, said the resort’s Director of Human Resources Bryan Holladay on Wednesday when the Hawai‘i Foodbank Kaua‘i team picked up the results of the resort’s Food Fund Drive that concluded on Jan. 19.
Sheraton Kaua‘i Coconut Beach Resort employees donated 264 pounds of food and $1,454 in cash “to benefit those in need,” said Tish Remigio of the Hawai‘i Foodbank Kaua‘i.
“That is a total of 3,346 meals provided through the food and monetary contributions. This is amazing! We couldn’t do this without the support of partners like the Sheraton Kaua‘i Coconut Beach Resort.”
For the employees of the Sheraton Kaua‘i Coconut Beach, the giving goes beyond taking care of food insecurity.
While loading the food onto the Hawai‘i Foodbank Kaua‘i van, a resort trash receptacle revealed its contents of marine debris that employees had pulled from the beachfront of the Waipouli resort.
“We haven’t packed it in the trash, yet,” said Sean Cahoon, the resort’s director of engineering. “We try to recycle everything. There is a good amount that collects on the shore and we do beach cleanups, regularly. Our next one is Friday, starting at 7 a.m.”
