More than two years waiting for a cup of Charmaine Moises’ ginger lemonade (no, Mary Pigao…no taste test, needed) is a long time. Kudos, Doug and Charmaine on getting the doors to Doug’s Dugout open after that long COVID-19 shutdown!
Mary Pigao, the director of Kaua‘i RSVP said the crispy, fried chicken special is to die for (it’s a Wednesday special at the shop located in the lobby area of the Pi‘ikoi Building, Lihu‘e Civic Center), and Charmaine was pulling out a tray of baked spaghetti, just in time for lunch, Thursday … Doug’s Dugout is open from 8 a.m. to 3 p.m., weekdays (Mondays to Fridays).
Mary was working with some of the Kaua‘i RSVP volunteers (they’re all part of AmeriCorps Seniors!) in sorting and preparing books collected during the Martin Luther Day Aloha Library Collection Drive done as the group’s MLK Day of Service project … mahalo to all the contributors of books that will be used to replenish supplies at the four Little Free Libraries.
Mahalo, and kudos to all three public high schools on coordinating great Senior Nights for their respective girls basketball teams. Senior nights signal the end of the Kaua‘i Interscholastic Federation season for that sport as talk in the gyms started taking on the baseball flavor. And special kudos to Island School’s Kennedy Braun for being the sole female competing on the boys basketball court!
Okay, Chinese New Year starts this Sunday, and people like The Shops at Kukui‘ula (they start going with the Flavors of Kukui‘ula, Friday from 5:30 p.m.), the Kukui Grove Center on Saturday, the Ching Young Village on Saturday from 10 a.m., and more are raring to start the celebration, that according to traditional Chinese calendars, is supposed to last until Feb. 1, ending with the traditional Lantern Festival.
