Herbert Santana Banua
Herbert Santana Banua passed away on Feb. 13, 2022, at the age of 89, in Waimea. He was born on May 22, 1932, in Lawa‘i. He was a U.S. Army veteran and data analyst.
He was preceded in death by father Alberto Banua, mother Cecilia Santana, brother Henry Bermoy Sr. and sister Sally McBride.
He is survived by wife Victoria Banua, sons Carlos Banua and Aldino “Dino” (Denise) Banua, daughters Anna (Sonny) Balauro, Tina (Albert) Carbonel and Lisa (Dino) Pabre, 10 grandchildren, 14 great-grandchildren, brothers Ben Bermoy and Roland (Caroline) Banua, and numerous uncles, aunts, nieces, nephews and cousins.
His service is Saturday, March 19, at Garden Island Mortuary, with a walk-thru visitation from 9 to 11 a.m. and services beginning at 11 a.m. The family suggests casual attire and requests that flowers be omitted. Due to COVID-19, social distancing and masks are required.
Garden Island Mortuary is assisting the family with arrangements.
Lance Matsunaga
Lance Matsunaga passed away on Feb. 23, 2022, at the age of 59, in Montebello, California. He and his family resided in Firestone, Colorado. He was in the state of California to receive cancer treatment at the City of Hope Hospital in Duarte, California.
He went to ‘Ele‘ele School and Waimea High School. Upon graduation, he enlisted in the U.S. Air Force and was an air traffic controller at Ellsworth Airbase in South Dakota, Yokota Airbase in Japan and Altus Airbase in Oklahoma. After 20 years of military service, he retired and was stationed at Lihu‘e Airport for some time. His last employment was at the Federal Aviation Agency in Longmont, Colorado, in the flight-data section.
He is survived by wife Annaliza, daughters Ashlee and Stephanie, son Steven, mother Patsy Higa Matsunaga of Gardena, California, father Harold and Rose Marie Matsunaga of Lihu‘e, and brother Lon (wife Kimmie, daughter Ivy) of Montebello, California.
He was preceded in death by sister Jill, grandparents, and numerous uncles and aunts from the Matsunaga and Higa families.
Private services were held at Hosoi Mortuary in Los Angeles.
Dominic J. Alisna
Dominic J. Alisna of Kalaheo peacefully passed on the evening of Feb. 16, 2022. He was born on April 24, 1958 in Lihu‘e to Domingo and Lourdes Alisna. He was a 1976 graduate of Kapa‘a High School. He worked for County of Kaua‘i for over 30 years.
He was preceded in death by mother Laurie Alisna, brother Wayne Alisna and Jordaen Alisna.
He is survived by his loving wife Margie Nordmeir Alisna, siblings Perry (Kathy), Domingo Anthony Alisna Jr., James (Liane), Peter (Lorna) and Donna (Primo Ragsac Jr.), and many nieces, nephews, grand-nieces and grand-nephews across the country.
He was nicknamed “Red Blazer,” liked to fish on his boat, and especially loved to go dancing kachi kachi with his wife on the weekends. He was always smiling, and will be missed for his caring and giving, “no-worry-I-get-um” attitude. He loved playing cards with his family and enjoyed spending time with his CB radio family.

His funeral is Saturday, March 19, at St. Catherine Church in Kapa‘a, with visitation at 10 a.m. with Mass at 11 a.m. Masks are required.
Lantz R. Petersen
Lantz R. Petersen, 51, passed away at his home in Lihu‘e on Feb. 28, 2022. He was born in Lubbock, Texas on June 30, 1970, and was on Kaua‘i attending Kaua‘i Community College.
He was preceded in passing by parents Ronald Petersen and Karyl West and brother Chase Petersen.
He is survived by brother Brandon (Julia) Smart, sister Brooke Smart and stepfather Ben Smart.
Private services will be held on Kaua‘i, with a celebration of life to be held at a later date in Utah.
Kaua‘i Memorial Gardens & Funeral Home is assisting the family with arrangements.
Helene Eiko Tada
Helene Eiko Tada passed away on March 13, 2022, at the age of 72, in Lihu‘e. She was born on Aug. 30, 1949, in Lihu‘e. She was a receptionist.
She was preceded in death by father Nichi Miyao, mother Pansy Miyao, brother Warren Miyao and son Delrick Tada.
She is survived by daughter Melanie (Tyrus) Matsumoto of Lihu‘e, one grandchild, brothers Earl Miyao of Lawa‘i and Winston (Marilyn) Ogata of Lihu‘e, and numerous uncles, aunts, nieces, nephews and cousins.
A service will be held at a later date.
