It’s a shame the Tahitian toere is not a farm product. You could use it to let people know about the Pau Hana Market, or as Celina Baliaris said, “Just follow the drums. Just follow the drums.” Tepairu Manea had his Anahola toere players at Kukui Grove Center in Lihu‘e for May Day Saturday.

Marina Pascua couldn’t participate in Ka Lei Contest by the Kaua‘i Museum, so had the COVID-19 lei on display with Vance Pascua and Ainofea at KGC. (Janice Bond is already ordering her special Kaua‘i Flowers edition for the upcoming East Kaua‘i Lions charter celebration). Marina said that, during the pandemic shutdown, she created 19 different lei in honor and tribute of a variety of subjects, including the flowers of Koke‘e (the ones that aren’t there anymore), Queen Lili‘uokalani and more.

Kudos to King’s Chapel on the pop-up Saturday that made good use of the space between the Anchor Cove Shopping Center and Nawiliwili Park as a fundraiser for the King’s Chapel’s many ministries!

Kawaikini New Century Public Charter School took advantage of May Day (you still had to wear face masks) at the Grove Farm Market in Puhi to make lei as a fundraiser. The Children’s Ministry from the Love On Jesus Ministry in Waimea was also doing the lei thing (what’s with the fancy marble holder?) at KGC, and Skipper Caycayon, Kona Conrad Jimenez, Wes Kaui and Cliff Furtado (he was visiting with Dean Matsumoto earlier) did their unique musical offering (that’s how you know it was special).

OK, gotta go check on the sign at Kalena Park (those Mo‘olelo Murals artists did a bang-up job with the butterflies on the comfort station. Is that why there’re butterfly wings on Kress Street?).
