LIHU‘E — The Kaua‘i Police Department now offers all three firearms registration forms on its website.
The forms are fillable and printable, and KPD requests that the public complete and print them prior to arriving for their scheduled appointments.
“We put the forms online to make the process easier and more expedited,” said KPD Capt. Mark Ozaki. “Please take the time to fill out each of the forms and bring them with you to your scheduled appointment.
“Anyone who arrives with incomplete forms may need to reschedule their appointments,” said Ozaki. “We thank everyone in advance for their continued patience and ability to adapt to the various changes that we have had to make along the way in order to help maintain public health and safety.”
KPD’s Records Section suspended all services to the public, including firearms registrations, on March 23 due to the COVID-19 pandemic. The action was taken to protect the health and well-being of KPD employees and members of the community, according to a KPD press release.
KPD resumed limited services on March 31, and expanded to full-service firearms registration operations by appointment only on April 7.
During the closure and reopening, KPD personnel have been developing online forms for firearms registration and permit to acquire firearms applications to better serve the public and reduce the need for people to appear in person to complete the documents, Ozaki said.
