POIPU — The Poipu Beach Resort Association has been achieving its goals for more than 35 years, marketing Poipu and Kauai as world-class destinations for over 120 participating members and those advocating for Poipu as a top-notch place to live, work and play, the group said.
After much association deliberation and in consideration of the best interests of the current membership, PBRA announced last week the end of the association as of June 30.
The Poipu Beach Foundation will continue to remain in business, with an opportunity to continue functioning based on grant funding and Poipu and Kauai business support.
The foundation supports several large-scale community events including:
• The 4th Annual Poipu Food and Wine Festival, hosted by the foundation, in partnership with the support and generosity of the Hawaii Tourism Authority – Community Enrichment Program, The Shops at Kukuiula and Kauai Community College culinary arts program. The 2019 Poipu Food & Wine Festival is scheduled for Wednesday, Sept. 18 through Saturday, Sept. 21, featuring special events at The Kauai Culinary Market, a series of cooking classes hosted in Poipu restaurants, and a gala celebration to benefit the KCC culinary arts program.
• The 10th annual New Year’s Eve Celebration at Poipu Beach Park. This family-friendly event is complimentary and open to the public, drawing residents and guests islandwide. The event begins at 5 p.m. with food trucks ready to serve, followed by a family movie on a big screen. Kauai’s only New Year’s Eve fireworks show begins at 8:15 p.m.
The New Year’s Eve event is hosted by the foundation and funded by the Hawaii Tourism Authority Community Enrichment Program and by many area businesses.
The foundation will also work to secure grant funding for Poipu beach-nourishment programs in order to keep Southshore beaches beautiful and clean.
“On behalf of the PBRA staff and board of directors, we share a big mahalo to our members for a successful and prosperous 35 years, and for helping make Kauai’s Southshore what it is today,” according to a PBRA release.
