LIHUE — Wilcox Medical Center is presenting a free diabetes awareness expo from 8 a.m. to noon Saturday.
There will be free risk screenings for adults and keiki, information sessions with health care experts, suggestions for menu makeovers, and health and wellness activities.
Community resource booths will be available with prize drawings and healthy snacks.
Diabetes, according to the state’s Department of Health, is a serious, common, and costly disease in the nation, and in Hawaii.
People living with diabetes are also at greater risk of developing health complications such as cardo-vascular disease, eye disease, and kidney disease.
The Health Management Program team of diabetes educators will also be on hand to answer questions about the three types of diabetes — Type 1, Type 2, and prediabetes.
To register, call 245-1198, or visit Wilcoxhealth.org for more information.
