Randford (Randy) Lee Canales

Randford (Randy) Lee Canales passed away on Oct. 16, 2018, at the age of 56. Born in Lihue on Jan. 9, 1962, he was an auto body mechanic for Advance Auto Body in Modesto, California.

He was preceded in death by father Emilio Canales and sister Beverly Philips.

He is survived by wife Marrya Bell, sons Levi (Tashiana) Canales, Rejis Canales and Andrew Canales, daughters Kyra (John) Canales and Healani Canales, stepchildren Tyler (Ashley) Hale and Krista Bell, brothers Blaine (Linda) Yaris, Salvador (Wendy) Yaris Jr. and Rodney Canales, sisters Waedeen (Eddie) Yaris and Rodreen Canales Boyd, mother Alice Canales, and four grandchildren.

A celebration of life will be on Saturday, Jan. 12, at Niumalu Beach Park pavilion at 4:30 p.m. This is a potluck, BYOB gathering.

His ashes will be scattered in a private ceremony with close friends and family.

Robert Kamakauliuli Kanahele Jr.

Robert Kamakauliuli Kanahele Jr., 40, of Hanapepe, passed away on Dec. 22, 2018, at his home.

Born on April 24, 1978 in Waimea, he was a chef at the Grand Hyatt Kauai Resort & Spa, Tomkat’s, MCS Grill, Kalaheo Steakhouse and Ke Kula Niihau O Kekaha public charter school.

He was preceded in death by parents Robert and Beverly Kanahele Sr.

He is survived by daughter Kuikamanao Kanahele of Koloa, brothers Johnston “Lito” (Brianne) Kanahele of Kapahi, Wally Kawaihalau of Hanapepe and Mark Kanahele of Hanapepe, sisters Beverly (Dusty) Beniamina of Hanapepe and Donella Kanahele of Hanapepe, and numerous uncles, aunts, nieces, nephews and cousins.

Friends may visit with the family on Friday, Jan. 11, at Borthwick Kauai Mortuary chapel in Koloa from 4 to 9 p.m., where services will be celebrated at 7:30 p.m. Burial will be Saturday, Jan. 12, at 10:30 a.m. at the Kekaha Hawaiian Cemetery.

The family suggests aloha attire.

Borthwick Kauai Mortuary is assisting the family with arrangements.

Maria Otani

Maria Otani, 91, of Lihue, passed away on Jan. 7, 2019, at Garden Isle Healthcare & Rehabilitation.

She was born on Dec. 3, 1927, in Germany.

She is survived by husband Toshihiro Otani of Lihue, son Michael (Melanie) Otani of Lihue, daughters Karin Panui of Lihue and Madie (Mark) Jimenez of Poipu, five grandchildren, six great-grandchildren, and numerous, nieces and nephews.

Private services were held. The family requests no koden (monetary gifts).

Borthwick Kauai Mortuary assisted the family with arrangements.
