Jack Leonard, owner and coach for Kauai Gymnastics Academy, said the Level 6 and Level 8 teams earned first and second places respectively during the team competition at the Las Vegas Mega Meet that wrapped up Sunday at the Westgate Resort and Casino in Las Vegas.
The Mega Meet is a multi-discipline gymnastics event hosted by the Fallbrook Gymnastic Club, and the Kauai Gymnastics athletes competed during the Friday night event in the Amateur Athletic Union division.
Hi‘ilawe Banasihan, competing in the Level 6 (9-10 years) finished first, overall in individual competition after finding gold in the vault, bars, beam, and floor competition. Her gym mate Kamaile Manibog found silver in those events and finished second all around.
Savannah Hubbard, competing in the Level 6 (11-12 years) was third in vaults, bettered by Madison Welsh who got first, and Haley Zina who finished second. Madison Hubbard finished fourth in the event.
But Savannah came back to finish first in bars, beam, and floor to end first in all around, Welsh, getting third in bars, and beams, and fourth in floor, to finish second in all around.
Zina, getting fourth in bars, second in beam, and third in floor ended third all around with Madison Hubbard, getting second in bars, fourth in beam, and second in floor ending fourth in all around.
Level 8 (11-12 years) gymnast Ashlynn Questin finished fourth in all around after getting third place in vaults, fourth in bars, second in beam, and fourth in floor exercise.
Ashley Ricciardi, competing in Level 8 (14-17 years) finished second all around after securing fifth in vault, third in bars, first in beam, and fourth in floor. Mia Ricciardi in the same Level 8 competition ended third all around after getting third place in vault, second in bars, third in beam and fifth in floor.
Veteran gymnasts Angela-Rhey Ventura and Lani Johnson finished first and second respectively in the Level 8 (19 and up) all around. Ventura swept the competition with first place win in vault, bars, beam, and floor while Johnson finished second in all categories.
