North Shore beaches closed due to high surf

Ocean safety officials advised no swimming or snorkeling at Ke‘e and Ha‘ena beaches due to high surf and dangerous ocean conditions on Tuesday.

The National Weather Service posted a high-surf warning for north- and west-facing shores of Kauai and Niihau until 6 p.m. Thursday. The warning may be extended or modified as conditions develop.

Lifeguards were reporting waves of up to 12 feet and rising on the North Shore Tuesday, with very strong rip currents. Spectators are also advised to use extreme caution, as large, breaking waves could make it dangerous for those standing along the shoreline.
