SANTA CLARA, Calif. (AP) — The San Francisco 49ers have promoted tight end Cole Hikutini from the practice squad to the active roster.
He was added to the roster Saturday to take the spot vacated when linebacker NaVorro Bowman was released.
Hikutini was originally signed as an undrafted free agent in May and was added to the practice squad after he failed to make the initial 53-man roster. He had 69 catches for 1,016 yards and 11 TDs in two years of college at Louisville.
Hikutini gives San Francisco another blocking option Sunday at Washington. Fullback Kyle Juszczyk will miss the game with a back injury.
