Police capture KCCC escapee Ezekiel Bagano

LIHUE — Kauai Police have apprehended Ezekiel Bagano, who escaped from the Kauai Community Correctional Center Sunday morning.

Acting on a tip, officers located and arrested Bagano outside an apartment complex in Kapaa around 2:30 p.m. Sunday.

Bagano, 19, of Kapaa, was initially arrested Feb.9 for unauthorized control of a propelled vehicle after he allegedly stole a car in the Kapaa area. He was being held at KCCC while awaiting trial.

Facility officials reported Bagano missing at 5:20 a.m. Sunday when a kitchen supervisor noticed he was missing from his work station. The facility was placed on lockdown and a headcount confirmed Bagano was not on facility grounds. Police, state sheriffs and the media were notified of his escape.

The Department of Public Safety is investigating how Bagano escaped.
