Fujiko M. Kakuda
Fujiko M. Kakuda of Waimea passed away at the age of 96 on Oct. 27 at Kauai Care Center. Born on April 1, 1920 on Kaua’i, she was a business owner.
She is preceded in death by her husband, Carl Kakuda. She is survived by her sons, Alwyn (Shirley) Kakauda of Hanapepe, Burt (Yvonne) Kakuda of Waimea, and Glenn (Gail) Kakuda of Hawaii Kai; daughter, Lorna (Clifford) Ching of Mililani; five grandchildren; six great-grandchildren; and numerous nieces and nephews.
Private services were held. The family requests no koden.
Arrangements were handled by Garden Island Mortuary, Ltd.
John “Jack” Louis Vargo
John “Jack” Louis Vargo, 77, of Kapaa, passed away on Nov. 30 at his home.
He was born on June 17, 1939 in Ohio and worked as a dry wall installer.
He is survived by his brother Edward R. Vargo of California and sister Mary Bierce of Ohio.
Memorial services will be celebrated at Kauai Veterans Cemetery on Tuesday, Dec. 20 at 9 a.m. Inurnment to follow.
Borthwick/Kauai Mortuary assisted the family with arrangements.
Shigeru Kurashige
Shigeru Kurashige passed away at the age of 87 on Dec. 5 in Lihue. Born on Feb. 24, 1929 in Lihue, he was a tour guide with Kauai Island Tours.
He is survived by his wife, Hiroko Kurashige; brothers, Isamu (Jane) Kurashige of Los Angeles, and Tatasu Kurashige of Lihue; sister, Hideko Mumau of Honolulu; and numerous uncles, aunts, nieces, nephews and cousins.
Private services were held.
