Vernon C. Asuncion

Vernon C. Asuncion, 88, of Kilauea, passed away on Nov. 25, 2016, at Wilcox Memorial Hospital.

Born on Nov. 24, 1928, in Puunene, Maui, he was a retired groundskeeper for Samuel Mahelona Memorial Hospital.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Crisogono and Romans Asuncion; brothers, Norman, Sid, Francisco, Frank, Filimino and Florando Asuncion; and sister, Loretta Abalos.

He is survived by his wife, Josephine Yadao Asuncion; children, Cristine Asuncion, Leonard (Theresa) Asuncion, Joanne Asuncion and Timothy “Timmy” (Patrice) Asuncion, Faith Sugahara, Nadine (Robin) Robinson, Ciso Peru, Magdalena “Cookie” Peru, Leslie (Evajoy) Peru, Marian “Hue” Regador; daughter-in-law Jade (Larry) Rosa; brother Alfred (Rose) Asuncion; sister Delores Stollar; 22 grandchildren; 25 great-grandchildren and numerous nieces, nephews and cousins.

Friends may visit with the family on Saturday, Dec. 31, at St. Sylvester Catholic Church from 8 to 9:45 a.m. Mass will be celebrated at 10 a.m. Burial will follow at Kilauea Japanese Cemetery.

Borthwick/Kauai Mortuary assisted the Asuncion family with arrangements.
