John William Hammes II
John William Hammes II, 65, passed away Oct. 7, 2015, at his home in Sarasota, Florida, following a long illness. Born on June 7, 1950, in Racine, WI, he graduated from Racine St. Catherine’s High School 1968 and Milton College, Milton, WI, 1972. John and his wife, Karalee, lived on North Shore of Kauai for 10 years, moving to Sarasota, Florida in 1997.
He was preceded in death by his father, Ever J. Hammes and his mother, Inez Carrigg Hammes.
John is survived by his loving wife, Karalee Risch-Hammes (formerly Karalee Querry), Sarasota, FL; his two children, John William (Faith) Hammes III and their four children, Ft. Bragg, NC, Tony (Diana Turner) Mielcarek and their son, Racine; a stepson, Mathias (Kyoko) Querry, and their four children, Fairbanks, AK. He is also survived by his sister, Maureen (Jon) Homstad, Eau Claire, WI and Naples, FL; his two brothers, Daniel (Mitzi) Hammes and Steven Hammes, Prescott, AZ; nine grandchildren and many nieces and nephews.
A longtime member of the Sarasota Yacht Club, John loved sailing and the water.
A Celebration of John’s Life will be held at the Sarasota Yacht Club on Nov. 8, 2015, from 4 to 7 p.m.
