Kudos to Ron Sakoda who could get all of his shakers and movers in place (even Stephen Fujii got up early Friday to help) to honor Sen. Daniel Inouye with a tree planting on the occasion of his birthday. Sandi Kato-Klutke said she came early to help Aunty Betty Matsumura, and Roy Nishida had his family (they knew where the best part of the Kauai Veterans Center was) helping. Did you know Eric Yama (Kim Tamaoka said the Project WET is coming up, soon) and his family was related to the Senator?
Thank heaven Bev Pang was there (my car ‘protected’ her car from dings), and seeing Jade Battad (she’s got a family wedding this weekend) in the parking lot must be a good omen for the long weekend. Unfortunately, Art Umezu couldn’t make it because he had Shun Suzuki, the Iwaki marathon winner, arriving for the Kauai Marathon.
Aside from the normal protocol, Dr. Kani Blackwell (this means the Kauai Powwow is coming, soon!) was offering a Native American sage smoke offering in tribute to the work the Senator did for indigenous people.
