YMCA pool closed for repairs

LIHUE — An underground water leak has closed the YMCA swimming pool temporarily.

Maintenance workers are repairing the pool that closed on Monday.

It’s unknown when it will reopen. YMCA director Thomas Tannery was unavailable for comment Tuesday.

It’s the second pool forced to close lately on Kauai.

In addition to the YMCA pool, which requires a membership to swim, the public Kapaa swimming pool is expected to remain closed for the next several weeks due to problems with its motor and pump, which need replacing.

For the general public, Kauai High School’s swimming pool is open for adult swimming on Tuesday, Wednesday, Thursday and Friday from 8 until 9:30 a.m.

For open swimming, the pool is available on Tuesday, Thursday and Friday from 1 until 4:30 p.m., on Saturday from 10 a.m. until 4:30 p.m. and on Sunday from noon until 4:30 p.m.

The swimming pool at Waimea High School is open. Adult swims are available in the summer from 7:30 until 9:30 a.m. while open swimming is available from 1:30 until 4:30 p.m. on Tuesday, Thursday and Friday.

On Saturday, adult swimming is open from 9 until 11 a.m. and open swimming is available from 11:30 a.m. until 4:30 p.m. During Sunday, open swimming is available from noon until 4:30 p.m.
