Motorcyclist seriously injured in traffic crash

WAIMEA — A 62-year-old Kapaa man sustained serious injuries late this afternoon in a single-motorcycle crash in Waimea.

The motorcyclist was heading down Waimea Canyon Drive near mile marker six when he failed to negotiate a turn and crashed. He was not wearing a helmet.

The man was transported to Wilcox Hospital where he is in serious condition in the intensive care unit.

A portion of Waimea Canyon Drive, from just below the Kokee Road junction to the Kuhio Highway junction, was closed in both directions for approximately three hours following the crash while the Kauai Police Department’s Traffic Safety Section conducted an on-scene investigation.

The roadway was reopened at about 7:30 p.m.
