Morning pedestrian fatality

LIHUE — A 60 year-old woman was struck and killed early this morning as she walked along Rice Street.

Preliminary information from Kauai Police Department stated that the crash occurred at approximately 6:15 a.m., when a female pedestrian was struck by a westbound Toyota Tacoma as she crossed the marked crosswalk fronting the Bank of Hawaii.

The male driver stopped his truck to render aid, when a second vehicle, traveling west, also struck the pedestrian. The victim was pronounced dead at the scene. Police have not yet released her identity.

Rice Street remains closed until approximately 8:50 a.m. as police continued their investigation. Anyone who may have witnessed this incident is asked to call police immediately at 241-1711.
