Fire damages Eleele home

Two families are being assisted by the American Red Cross after their home on Pualei Street in Eleele was damaged by fire Wednesday.

Red Cross disaster volunteers were scheduled to meet with the affected residents to ensure their immediate emergency needs for food, shelter and clothing are met.

Units from the Hanapepe and Kalaheo station responded to the blaze, which was reported about 11:15 a.m. Neighbors were already assisting with water hoses and the fire was fully extinguished by 12:25 p.m.

Fire damage was confined to the back of the house, but smoke damage was reported throughout the dwelling. Two families reportedly lived in the house. No injuries were reported.

The cause of the fire remains under investigation.
