NAWILIWILI — The Kauai and Island School teams split its opening series Saturday at the Kauai Lagoons Tennis Courts. The Voyagers took the girls series 4-1 over Kauai High School while on the boys’ courts the Red Raiders won 4-1.

The Voyagers took the girls series 4-1 over Kauai High School while on the boys’ courts the Red Raiders won 4-1.
The Island School girls were strong on the singles courts. Michaela Fitzgerald got past Gillian Gregorio, 6-0, 6-0 in the first singles.
On the second singles court, Alex Obert defeated Kauai’s Stefanie Gushikuma, 6-0, 6-0.
Kauai’s sole win on the girls court came in the first doubles when the Red Raider team of Tarryn Orial and Danika Thompson got past Island School’s Katy Davidson and Ajaj Scalafari, 6-3, 7-6 (7-5).
On the second doubles court, Island School came out on top of another tight match. The Voyager pair of Ashley Larkin and Whitney Summerhays got past Kauai’s duo of Kaylin Kukino and Madison Rayno 7-6 (7-5), 6-4.
Island School’s Mabel Kha teamed with Brianna Griep to defeat the Kauai duo of Tori Pagador and Teyanni Esaki. Esaki played the first match of her high school career.
The Voyager pair of Genevieve Foster and Jade Murphy defeated Kauai’s Tailee Tangonan and Dareen Dameg 6-4 in an exhibition match to round out the girls’ action.
In the boys arena, Island School’s Davis Huffman defeated Francis Perez 6-0, 6-0 for the Voyagers’ sole win which came in the first singles.
Kauai’s Ricky Oshita took out Eric Potter 6-2, 2-6, 6-4 on the boys second singles to round out the singles action.
The doubles court belonged to Kauai as Mitchel Evans and Byeong Lee opened up the first doubles win by defeating Island School’s Sam Goldberg and Ian Cowden 6-0, 6-1.
One the second doubles court, Kauai’s Reggie Mones and Clinton Sibolboro downed the Island School pair of Quentin Allen and Francis Green 6-2, 6-0. Joshua Agpaoa paired with Kainoa Matsumoto to defeat Island School’s Eli Smart and Andrew Anderton 6-3, 6-2 on the boys third doubles court.
Kauai High School returns to the Kauai Lagoons facility 10 a.m. Saturday when it hosts Kapaa High School.
Island School will travel to Menehuneland to meet Waimea High School at 10 a.m.
