LIHUE — Hundreds of youngsters flocked to the North Vidinha soccer fields as the Kauai Soccer Association opened its spring season Saturday.
Starting with Under 8 age groups, a total of 22 games kept parents, players, and officials busy throughout the day.
Coach Bobby Rapozo, one of the KSA leaders, said game format includes players in the Under 12, Under 14, and Under 16 age groups playing a full 11-person roster while players in the Under 10 and Under 8 age groups play an eight-player format on an abbreviated field.
Among the field, new teams such as the Kapaa FC Girls Under 10 were providing keen competition for the Futsal Kauai Girls Under 10 squad, the Kapaa FC girls offering a strong defense over the aggressive Futsal offense, resulting in a 2-0 Futsal lead at the half.
“That’s one of the new teams this season,” Rapozo said. “Kevin Gusman and myself are back to coaching at the start. We have an Under 8 team.”
Games are played on Saturdays starting at 8 a.m. at the North Vidinha soccer fields and the public is invited to view the competition at no charge.
