KIPU — A three-car crash Friday afternoon injured four people and closed both lanes of Kaumualii Highway for over two hours.
According to the preliminary report from the Kauai Police Department, a Dodge Challenger traveling eastbound at approximately 2:43 p.m., crossed the centerline near the Kauai Humane Society and collided head-on with a westbound truck that caught on fire and became fully engulfed in flames.
A third vehicle heading west swerved into the eastbound lane to avoid the collision and sideswiped the Challenger.
On of the victims was critically injured, and all four were taken to Wilcox Memorial Hospital.
Names of the victims were not available Friday, and an investigation in ongoing.
Reports over the police scanner stated that none of the victims were trapped inside the burning vehicle.
