KALAHEO — Taylor Cox made a big bucket Tuesday night at the Kalaheo Neighborhood Center.
Cox, playing for the Team Lihue D4 girls squad, dropped her only bucket in overtime, the field goal joining one made by Marissa Layosa to give Team Lihue a 14-10 edge over the Kaulupono D4 girls.
Layosa topped the Team Lihue scoring with six points, dropping a bucket in the first half, the second half, and one in OT.
Resa Rae Rapozo also netted a goal in the first and second half for four points with Courtney Rosa and Cox rounding out the win.
Kaulupono D4 charged back from a 6-2 halftime deficit to score eight second-half points to force the overtime, TJ Ramos leading the charge with four points in the second half.
Ramos, finished tops with six points followed by Kaye Serapio and D’anndra Helgen each netting a pair.
Kaulupono D1 girls’ low post Melia Okura finished with 10 points to lead the older girls to a 40-29 win over the Kauai Ballers D1 girls in the nightcap.
Schae-Marie Tavita, another of the Kaulupono posts, finished with seven second-half points in the win.
Guards Kiarra Palacio and Casey Anacleto added six and five points, respectively, with the fleet-footed Monique Lorenzo adding four points, including a first-half bomb from outside the three-point arc.
Breann Cayaban finished with four points with Apryl Grande and Asia Yasay finishing with a pair each in the win.
Ariel Cummings led the Ballers D4 effort with nine points, six coming in the second half when the Ballers made a concerted effort to close the 13-19 halftime deficit.
Cheyenne Abigania added five points, including a second-half three-ball and Ui McCabe finished with four points.
The Kaulupono summer league girls take a break until Monday due to participation in the Kauai Youth Basketball Association and County of Kauai Team Lihue tournament for girls 13 and under and 16 and under and will feature a team from Maui visiting the Kalaheo Neighborhood Center.
“All of the girls in the D1 team can play in either the 13 and under or the 16 and under team,” Kaulupono coach Bobby Kamakele said. “There’re only two girls from the high school who can’t play.”
The tournament starts Thursday from 5:30 p.m. at the Kalaheo Neighborhood Center.
The boys’ teams in the Kaulupono summer league continue with three games scheduled at Kapaa High School Thursday starting at 6 p.m.
TC Silver in the Division 4 will meet Papalina in the 6 p.m. tipoff followed by Division 3 Eastside going up against the Kamikaze at 7 p.m. Hanakila Division 2 boys will face the Ballers in the 8 p.m. nightcap.
