LIHU‘E — Registration for the Second NBC Kaua‘i Basketball Camp will be held Friday at the Exhibition area at Kukui Grove Center from 7 to 9 p.m.
The Kaua‘i Basketball Camp will be held from June 17-21 at Island School from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Registration on June 17 starts at 9 a.m. hosted by the “W” of Kaua‘i.
Organizers said last year’s camp was sold out and encourage prospective campers to register early to ensure a spot for this year’s camp. Additionally, early registrants at Kukui Grove Center will receive a T-shirt or basketball while supplies last.
Another registration will be held on May 24 at Kukui Grove Center food court area from 7 to 9 p.m.
The camp is open to boys and girls between the ages of 9 through 18 years old, with registration being $70 per camper. Registration feel includes a T-shirt and custom basketball available on the final day of camp.
During the camp, campers are required to bring a basketball, water bottle and lunch.
Parents, family and friends are welcome to attend special events, such as the June 19 Intensity Hour starting at 3 p.m. Also called Confidence Stations, Intensity Hour consists of one hour of continuous circuit training, which includes basketball drills and physical exercising.
Campers start off by painting their faces like warriors heading into battle. They then begin to motivate each other and build up each other’s confidence levels before starting with the Confidence Stations.
Families are also encouraged at the Family & Friends Show, June 21 starting at 3 p.m. when campers have an opportunity to demonstrate what they’ve learned during the camp, the show concluding with an awards ceremony.
The NBC Kaua‘i Basketball Camp focuses on the crucial keys to becoming a great player. The camp is broken into four teaching areas, including individual offense, defense, shooting and team skills.
Campers are separated into teaching groups with teams based on age and ability.
Complete player camps emphasize extensive skill development, intensity, enthusiasm and leadership, states a release from NBC Camps.
Some of the highlights of the Kaua‘i camp include personal assessment of athletic and basketball skills, intensity station and confidence training, encouraging atmosphere where campers walk away better athletes and people, an staff who “invest” in campers’ lives, total basketball skill development, goal setting, mental toughness, confidence under pressure, skill mastery, enthusiasm, self-discipline, Christian values and fun.
