Helen Hamamura

Helen Hamamura of Kapaa, Hawai‘i, died on August 20, 2012 at Wilcox Memorial Hospital at the age of 84. She was born on January 16, 1928 in Kapaa, Hawai‘i. She was a Service Representative with GTE.            

She is survived by her sons, Dave (Naomi) Hamamura of Lihue, Glen (Brenda) Hamamura of Pensacola, FL, and Jon Hamamura of Kapaa; daughters, Emily (Jason) Kurashige of San Mateo, CA and April (Patrick) Gragas of Makawao, Maui; brother, Robert Tsuchiya of Los Angeles, CA; sisters, Eleanor (Harry) Sasaki of Lihue, Elsie (Gordon) Koigawachi of Kapaa, and Gladys (Herbert) Yamashiro of Honolulu; ten grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; and numerous uncles, aunts, nieces, nephews, and cousins.

Memorial service will be held on Saturday, September 22, 2012, at All Saints Episcopal Church in Kapaa.

Visitation will be at 9 am, service to begin at 10 am. Family suggests casual attire and no flowers.

Ysidra Dace

Ysidra “Sidra” Racca Dace of Aiea, Hawaii formerly of Puhi, Kauai passed away on September 03, 2012 at home in Aiea at the age of 97.  Born on May 12, 1915 in Santa Maria, Ilocos Sur, Philippines, she was a retired housekeeper at Wilcox Memorial Hospital.

She is preceded in death by her parents, Hermogenes & Raimunda Racca; husband, Macario Dace; sisters, Urbana Ducay & Lucina Racca; brothers, Quiterio, Sabas, Inocencio, & Federico Racca.

She is survived by her sons, Demetrio (Trinidad) Dace of Kauai, Taurino (Gwen) Dace of Washington, Alejandro (Lydia) Dace of California; daughter, Juanita Realista of Oahu; brother, Juan Racca, Philippines; 17 grandchildren, Marylou (Joe) Dumlao, Maribelle (Jessie) Semana, Marlyn Dace, Dial (Billy Celino) Dace, Rolando Dace, Tracy (Christopher) Jambaro, Gail Meggison, Ricky (Jennifer Yeoman) Realista, Armando (Vivian) Realista Sr, Christina (Sean Kim Han Jr) Realista, Susan (Bob) Lau-Roberts, Darryl (Scott) Stewart, Durand Dace, Trina (George) Matsumoto, Corrina Somera, Dina (Romeo) Cabato, Andrea (Michael) Bejo, Alicia Dace; 18 great-grandchildren and numerous nieces & nephews.

Memorial Service will be held on Saturday, September 22, 2012, at Immaculate Conception Catholic Church in Kapaia.  

Visitation will be at 8:30 a.m., mass to be celebrated at 10:00 a.m.  Burial to follow at Immaculate Conception Cemetery.

Arrangements were handled by Borthwick Kauai Mortuary, Koloa, Kauai.

John Lopes

John Gilbert Lopes of Kailua, Oahu, Hawaii, passed away on August 25, 2012 at Howard County General Hospital, Columbia, Maryland at the age of 75.  

Born on May 6, 1937 in Hanamaulu, Kauai, he was an Otis Elevator Mechanic and a Hawaii State elevator inspector.

He was preceded in death by his parents, John F. Lopes and Esther Amorin Lopes; and sister, Mildred Texeira.

He is survived by his wife, Mary Ann; son John L. Lopes; daughters, Michelle Mclaren, and Christine Asing Jr.; sister, Hazel Marie Kosuga; brother, Abraham Nelson Lopes of Kauai; uncle, Jack Amorin; aunt, Delphine Chamizo; 7 grandchildren, and 2 great-grandchildren.

A celebration of his life will be held on September 18, 2012 at St. John Vianney Church, 920 Keolu Drive, Kailua, Oahu.  Viewing is from 9 am with service to follow at 10 am.  

Burial will begin at 1 pm at State Veterans Cemetary, Hawaiian Memorial Park, Kaneohe.

Carolina Susterich

Carolina Butacan Susterich of Kahului and formerly of Kauai passed away on September 12, 2012 at the age of 85.  Born on April 18, 1927 in Paia, Maui, she was the co-owner of Joe’s Service on Kauai.

She was preceded in death by her husbands, Dionicio “Joe” Valdez and George R. Susterich.

She is survived by her sons, Jerry (Dori) Valdez, and William “Bill” (Clarissa) Valdez; daughters, Jane (Brage) Ahman, Evelyn Sally (Wendell) Condon, Leila “Millie” (Muimoana) Liva; sisters, Linda Bristol, Isabel Speck, and Visitation Brittain; brother, Licerio Butacan; 19 grandchildren, 29 great-grandchildren, and 1 great great-grandchild.

Family and friends are invited to gather at Borthwick Norman’s Mortuary in Wailuku, Hawaii on Thursday, September 20, with visitation at 9:00 am; service at 10 am. Burial to follow at 12:30 pm, at Valley Isle Memorial Park Cemetery in Haiku.

Family request casual attire and no flowers.
