John Lopes
John Gilbert Lopes of Kailua, Oahu, Hawaii, passed away on August 25, 2012 at Howard County General Hospital, Columbia, Maryland at the age of 75. Born on May 6, 1937 in Hanamaulu, Kauai, he was an Otis Elevator Mechanic and a Hawaii State elevator inspector.
He was preceded in death by his parents, John F. Lopes and Esther Amorin Lopes; and sister, Mildred Texeira.
He is survived by his wife, Mary Ann; son John L. Lopes; daughters, Michelle Mclaren, and Christine Asing Jr.; sister, Hazel Marie Kosuga; brother, Abraham Nelson Lopes of Kauai; uncle, Jack Amorin; aunt, Delphine Chamizo; 7 grandchildren, and 2 great-grandchildren.
A celebration of his life will be held on September 18, 2012 at St. John Vianney Church, 920 Keolu Drive, Kailua, Oahu. Viewing is from 9 am with service to follow at 10 am. Burial will begin at 1 pm at State Veterans Cemetary, Hawaiian Memorial Park, Kaneohe.

Jose Costales, Sr.
Jose C. Costales, Sr. of Kekaha, Kauai, passed away on September 4, 2012 at Kauai Veteran Memorial Hospital at the age of 97. Born on March 25, 1915 in the Philippines, he was a retired truck driver for the Sugar Plantation.
He was preceded in death by his parents Segundo & Heneveva Costales; son, Patrick Costales; and grandson, Shayden Csigi.
He is survived by his wife, Mary T. Costales; brother, Pedro, (Ceferina) Costales; sister-in-law, Caroline Unciano; sons, Martin (Haunani) Costales, Ernest Costales, Jose (Rosemarie) Costales, Jr.; daughter-in-law, Sue Costales; 12 grandchildren; 13 great-grandchildren; and numerous nieces & nephews.
Friends may visit with the family on Saturday, September 15, 2012 at St. Theresa’s Church in Kekaha from 8:00 am to 9:45 am. where mass will be celebrated at 10:00 am, burial to follow at Kekaha Public Cemetary.
Casual attire is requested.

Stella Sono Shimatsu of Kekaha, HI passed away on September 12, 2012 in Fullerton, CA at the age of 94. Born on October 25, 1917 in Mana Kauai, Hawaii, she was a homemaker.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Yoshiharu Shimatsu.
She is survived by her sons, Marvin and Lance; daughters Eileen Cabinte and Janice Blankenship; brothers Seichi, Kiyoichi, Jack and Roku Kanekuni;
6 grandchildren and 5 great-grandchildren.
No services were held.
