With the first Kaua‘i Interscholastic Federation pre-season football game looming Aug. 10, the 7-on-7 Pass League wrapped up its final game for the summer, Saturday when Kapa‘a High School traveled to the Waimea High School athletic field. No results were available for the pass league game which featured a pass only/ touch only format and played on a short field.
The first game, played on June 23, was played at the Anne Knudsen Park in Koloa when Kaua‘i High School hosted Waimea. All other games, played on Saturdays, were at the Harry and Jeanette Weinberg Sports Park in Wailua, adjacent to Lydgate Park. The league started when Kapa‘a coach Keli‘i Morgado said he remembered playing a pass league during the days he played football in high school and remembered the benefits of playing a pass-only league with no pads.
With the final game under its belt, players now don pads and practice goes into full swing in preparation for the four games which will be played Aug. 10 and 11 as the KIF opens its fall season with pre-season games. Waimea will host Waiakea High School of the Big Island Interscholastic Federation, Aug. 10, in a single game starting at 7 p.m. at the Hanapepe Stadium.
Aug. 11, primary election day, Kapa‘a opens the triple-header with a Junior Varsity match against Kalani High School of O‘ahu starting at 2:30 p.m. at Vidinha Stadium.
The JV game will be followed by the Warrior varsity hosting the Falcon varsity starting at 5 p.m. Kaua‘i High School will wrap up the triple bill of football with a single game, hosting Waialua High School starting at 7:30 p.m.
All three KIF teams travel on Aug. 18, Waimea going to Honoka‘a on the Big Island, Kaua‘i and Kapa‘a both traveling to Maui, the Red Raiders meeting King Kekaulike and Kapa‘a going up against Kamehameha-Maui. Kaua‘i closes the pre-season on Aug. 25, a Kaua‘i County Farm Bureau Fair night, with a single game against Pac-5 at Vidinha Stadium starting at 7 p.m. The KIF fall season opens Aug. 31, when Kaua‘i hosts Waimea at Vidinha Stadium with the JV game kicking off at 5 p.m. and the varsity game starting at 7:30 p.m.
