LIHU‘E — The Hilo Vikings, ranked No. 4 at the 2010 JN Automotive Group Girls Soccer State Championships, Division I, will be playing against the Kaua‘i Interscholastic Federation teams starting Friday.
Kaua‘i High School girls will open the pre-season action at the Harry and Jeanette Weinberg Sports Park against Hilo starting at 2:30 p.m.
Saturday, the Kapa‘a Warrior wahine face the Vikings in a 10 a.m. match, also at the Weinberg sports facility at Lydgate Park.
The Vikings close their road trip with a game against the Waimea girls starting at 3:30 p.m. at Hanapepe Stadium, Saturday.
Reiko Yoshida, the Kaua‘i girls soccer coach who entered the state tournament seeded No. 3 in Division II last year, said the Red Raiders will face off against Hilo and, on the heels of that game, will be on a plane to O‘ahu where the Red Raiders are in action, Friday evening at a pre-season tournament.
Yoshida said this is a tough pre-season match for Kaua‘i because of their pre-season opponents are Division I teams.
Mark Brandeburg, the Kaua‘i boys soccer coach, said the Kaua‘i boys will see pre-season action Nov. 19 at 10 a.m. against Seabury at Hanapepe Stadium.
Kapa‘a High School boys, finishing the 2010 season as the No. 2 seed at the boys state Division II championships, open the action against Seabury, Nov. 18 at a site to be determined.
Following that game, Kaua‘i faces Seabury at 10 a.m., Nov. 19 at Hanapepe Stadium. Waimea boys also play Seabury on Nov. 19 starting at 4 p.m. at Hanapepe Stadium.
On Nov. 20, Seabury wraps up its Kaua‘i road trip with a single game against Island School at Island School.
Brandeburg said that is the only Kaua‘i pre-season soccer matches before the KIF season gets underway Dec. 3.
