LIHU‘E — Kahanu Davis ran and ran. The clock ticked away and Davis crossed the end zone to complete a 93-yard pass interception for a touchdown as the buzzer sounded on a 25-0 win for the Koloa Redskins Mitey Mite division, Sunday at Vidinha Stadium.
Davis’ pick-six was his third in the game and due to time running out, no point-after was attempted followed the score.
Wailani Kawahalau opened the Koloa scorebook with a 17-yard score in the opening quarter and Davis added three more TDs in the win.
Following Kawahalau’s opener, Davis added a 27-yard touchdown for the 12-0 Koloa lead at the half.
Following a scoreless third quarter, Davis struck again, passing to Xyran Pai for 10 yards and the first of two fourth-quarter Koloa scores.
Braden Galas did the point-after honors and both teams battled defensively until Davis’ last-second interception for the 25-0 final.
Earlier, Kekai San Agustin-Nordmeier passed to Colby Aana-Todd for 13 yards and the sole touchdown in the second quarter as the Kekaha Titans shut down the Koloa Redskins 6-0 in the Junior Midget contest.
Both contests were postponed from Saturday morning when thunderstorms and lightning greeted the early arrivals at Vidinha Stadium.
Kaua‘i Pop Warner Football League officials jockeyed the time schedules and crammed five games into the normal three-game Sunday schedule.
Doza Kaleiohi had the sole touchdown in Lihu‘e’s 8-0 win over the Hanapepe Colts in the Mitey Mite division game which kicked off at noon.
Kaleiohi bulled for 5 yards and paydirt in the second quarter, the point-after coming up empty after Colt defenders piled the Patriot quarterback outside the end zone.
The extra two points in the final came when Xaerys Dela Cruz dropped the Colt ball carrier in the end zone for a safety in the fourth quarter.
Hanapepe Colts’ Avery Miguel had a touchdown and a point-after to lead the Colts to a 20-0 win over the Lihu‘e Patriots in the Junior Pee Wee division match which kicked off at 2 p.m.
Following Naikoa Simao finding the end zone on a 7-yard run, Miguel did the point-after honors for the early 7-0 lead which stood until Miguel punched through the end zone on a 1-yard charge for the 13-0 Hanapepe lead at the half.
Rhino Banasihan tapped paydirt in the third quarter for a 5-yard touchdown with quarterback Lacin Montemayor finding Tai Ofisa on a pass for the point-after and the 20-0 final.
Lanakila Wilson had two touchdowns to lead the Lihu‘e Patriots to a 14-9 edge over the Hanapepe Colts in the Junior Midget finale which kicked off at 4 p.m.
Ryan Ruiz found the end zone on a 1-yard run to put Hanapepe on the boards first, in the second quarter only to have Lihu‘e respond with a 49-yard peel by Wilson for the 6-6 deadlock.
Justin Fune broke that stalemate with a 29-yard field goal for the 9-6 Hanapepe edge at the half.
The Colts enjoyed that lead until the fourth quarter when Wilson found the end zone on a 6-yard run, Aaron Renaud doing the point-after boot for the 14-9 final.
This weekend marks the final regular play for the KPWFL season as games move to Hanapepe Stadium.
Saturday, the Kekaha Titans Junior Midgets host the Lihu‘e Patriots in the 8 a.m. opener followed by the Titans Mitey Mites hosting the Patriots at 10 a.m.
Sunday’s action will have the Hanapepe Colts hosting the Kapa‘a Eagles Mitey Mites starting at 10:30 a.m. followed by the Colts JPW hosting the Eagles at 12:30 p.m. The finale will have the Colts Junior Midgets hosting the Eagles starting at 2:30 p.m.
The annual Shriners bowl, where proceeds benefit the Shriners Children’s Hospital, will be played Nov. 19 at Vidinha Stadium.
