From Nov. 14 to 21, collection sites in Kilauea, Kapa‘a and Lihu‘e will be accepting gift-filled shoe boxes to send to needy children overseas, according to a press release.
Local volunteers are encouraging people to fill empty shoe boxes with school supplies, toys, hygiene items and notes of encouragement as part of Operation Christmas Child.
The project is an effort that has hand-delivered 86 million gifts to children since 1993, according to the press release. Organizers uses tracking technology to allow donors to “follow” their box to the destination country where it will be hand-delivered to a child, the release states.
From Nov. 14 to 21, volunteers can drop off their shoe box gifts at one of three locations:
• Lihu‘e Lutheran Church, located at 4602 Ho‘omana Rd. in Lihu‘e. 651-1044.
• North Shore Christian Church, located at 4000 Kilauea Rd. in Kilauea. 652-7587.
• Calvary Chapel Kaua‘i, located on the Kapa‘a Bypass. 821-2228.
