This was the week for bargains — Ken Yasutake has his crop of pineapple coming out at the Sunshine Markets and a great deal on a Reyn Spooner shirt at the Mahelona Auxiliary Thrift Shop.
Josie Pablo said the Mahelona Auxiliary is hosting a carnival for the hospital’s long term population and will be active during the Admission Day Lu‘au and the bon dance in August.
Elaine Morita said the thrift shop had just gotten in some Japanese dishes, and no sooner was that said, someone already started buying pieces, noting glass is better than plastic — you can sterilize it.
There are even copies of the Kaua‘i Veterans Memorial Hospital cookbook which feature local-style recipes not only from KVMH, but some Mahelona auxiliarists as well.
Check them out on weekdays.
Sharla Hasegawa was helping at the Kaua‘i Academy of Creative Arts along with Jean Souza (she’s happy her daughter was accepted as an aide), and kudos to Mary Nakamura and Peggy Lake on pulling together the great event showcasing all those talented kids. Kudos to Susanna Cota-Robles on the Art Walk contribution, too!
