Deborah “Nana” K. Balai of Kapa‘a died June 14, 2011 at Wilcox Memorial Hospital at age 55. Born on March 9, 1956, in Lihu‘e, Kaua‘i, she was a housewife.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Raymond Balai; mother, Juliette Brede; brothers, Gilmath Brede and William “Bully” Brede.
She is survived by her daughter, Merlayne (Kira) Low; son, Thomas (Raina) Balai; hanai daughter, Maile Balai; father, William (Helen) Brede; sister, Tweety (Gilbert) Balai; brother, Shane (Susan) Brede; numerous aunties, uncles, nieces and nephews.
Funeral service will be held on Saturday, July 9, at The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints, Kapa‘a ward. Visitation is at 8:30 a.m. with service at 10 a.m. Burial to follow at Kapa‘a Public Cemetery.
Arrangements are beings handled by Borthwick Kaua‘i Mortuary, Koloa.
Sueo Matsuyama
Sueo “Joe” Matsuyama of Lihu‘e, Kaua‘i passed away on May 30, 2011 at Wilcox Memorial Hospital at the age of 83. Born in Kapaia, Kaua‘i on June 1, 1927, he was a driver instructor for Lihu‘e Plantation.
He is preceded in death by his wife, Katsuko Matsuyama.
He is survived by daughters, Debra (Kenneth) Okuno of Honolulu, O‘ahu; Joni (Gil) Cabot of Puhi, Kaua‘i; Iris (Chad) Manoi of Eleele, Kaua‘i; 7 grandchildren; 5 great-grandchildren; sister-in-law, Akiyo Matsuyama; brother-in-law, Kazuo Miura and caregiver, Nita Alquisalas of Hanama‘ulu, Kaua‘i.
Services will be held on July 7, 2011 at Kaua‘i Veterans Center in Lihu‘e. Visitation starts at 1:30 p.m. and services at 2:30 p.m.
Casual attire is suggested.
Francisco Riopta
Francisco R. Riopta of Hanama‘ulu, Kaua‘i died on June 22, 2011 at Garden Isle Healthcare at the age of 91. Born in the Philippines on Sept. 23, 1919, he retired as a truck driver.
He is survived by his two sons, Franklin (Terry) Riopta of Hanama‘ulu; Franson (Debra) Riopta of Brea, California; daughter, Francelia (Rick) Stengel of Hanama‘ulu; 4 grandchildren and 4 great-grandchildren; one brother, Rosario Riopta (deceased) of the Philippines; one sister, Victorina Rabe of the Philippines; numerous nieces, nephews and cousins.
Friends may visit with the family on Friday, July 8, 2011 at Borthwick Kaua‘i Mortuary Chapel in Koloa from 9 a.m. and services will be celebrated at 11 a.m.
Burial to follow at Kaua‘i Memorial Gardens.
Barbara Perreira
Barbara Perreira of Kalaheo died on June 18, 2011 at Kaua‘i Veterans Memorial Hospital at the age of 80. Born on July 22, 1930, she was retired.
She is survived by her husband, Alvin Perreira of Kalaheo; daughters, Carole (Ray) Reynon of Honokaa; Judy (Thomas) Batis of Kekaha and Heidi (Daniel) Perreira of Kalaheo; grandchildren, Kawai Lehua Basconcillo; Kolomana Basconcillo; Thomas “TJ” Batis; Kanawai Hose all of Kalaheo and Kierien Jacintho of Hanamaulu; brothers, Ernest “Les” Ventura; Franklin Ventura and August (Bernie) Ventura all of Kalaheo; sister, Betty Correa of Kalaheo; uncles, aunts, nieces, nephews and cousins.
Friends may visit with the family from 9 to 11 a.m., Saturday, July 9, 2011, at Holy Cross Catholic Church. Mass to be celebrated at 11 a.m.
Casual attire is suggested and flowers omitted.
