LIHU‘E — The 2010 Kaua‘i Interscholastic Federation boys baseball title can be claimed today if the Waimea Menehune are able to knock off the Kapa‘a Warriors in the regular-season finale.
Waimea, having won the first round in a 22-2 playoff victory over the Kaua‘i Red Raiders, are on the verge of the season championship, sitting at 4-0 in the season’s second round. A victory over the Warriors, who are winless in the second half, would put the Menehune two full games ahead of the Raiders (3-2).
Kaua‘i and Waimea were rained out of a single game on April 7, a game that was to be made up only if necessary to the standings.
A Waimea victory today would make that contest moot, though a Kapa‘a upset would ensure that game will be made up. Waimea would sit at 4-1, with Kaua‘i still able to even their records with a victory.
Kapa‘a pulled out a 6-5 win over Waimea in the first game of doubleheader on March 13, the Warriors’ lone victory of the season.
First pitch is scheduled for 3:30 p.m. at Ron Martin Field in Kapa‘a.
