KPAC receives
$5,000 grant
Seeks matching funds
from community
Hawai‘i Arts Alliance received a donation to enhance opportunities in peer sharing and arts education program support in eight Hawai‘i high schools. The Kaua‘i Performing Arts Learning Center supports student creative achievement by offering continuing education in the theatre arts for all Kaua‘i public school students in grades six to 12. KPAC produces a minimum of five plays yearly. The plays are open to the public and enhance Kaua‘i’s cultural atmosphere and have been entertaining the community for 23 years.
The $5,000 gift is structured as a challenge grant. The Alliance distributes $5,000, the first installment of the award, and in order to receive the second installment of $5,000, each program must raise matching donations to the initial $5,000. The schools are encouraged to reach into their communities to increase further participation and support for their program and elevate the profile of arts education statewide.
To assist KPAC, contact program coordinator Dennis McGraw, 651-2417 or e-mail, dennis_mcgraw/kauaih/hidoe@notes.k12.hi.us. Send donations to KPAC C/O Kaua‘i High School, 3577 Lala Road, Lihu‘e, HI, 96766. All donations are tax deductible.

Key events included a benefit concert by Hawaiian entertainer Willie K. at the St. Regis Princeville Resort Dec. 4 and a month long holiday tree decorating contest hosted by the resort. Concert activities included a silent and live auction and prize drawings. Twelve businesses participated in a tree-trimming contest with donations given to the favorite tree. The Hanalei Elementary School mission is to empower the school community to take responsibility for meeting the educational needs of all students and to foster a desire for life-long learning.
