Jose Valdez III
Jose Corrales Valdez III of Apple Valley, Calif., died Dec. 6, 2009, at Wilcox Memorial Hospital at age 48. Born on May 21, 1961, in Namuac Sanchez-Mira, Cagayan, Philippines, he was a physician assistant at High Desert Primary Care.
He is survived by his parents Jose and Clavelina Valdez; wife Myrtle Valdez; son Jordan Valdez; brothers Fred (Luz) Valdez and Walter (Meldon) Valdez; sisters Lorna (Rolando) Valdez Arafiles and Meha (Todd) Valdez Ewing; mother-in-law Gladys Sitompul; sisters-in-law Genevieve (Fred) Nelwan and Minerva Sitompul; numerous nieces and nephews.
A memorial service will be in California.
Arrangements are being handled by Borthwick Kaua‘i Mortuary.

Gail K. Miller of Kekaha died Nov. 29, 2009, at her home at age 54. Born on March 5, 1955, in Seattle, Wash., she was an interior designer.
She was preceded in death by her sister Sharon Kinnear.
She is survived by her son Raymond Miller of Kekaha; parents Ian and Ida Kinnear of Spreckelsville, Maui; sister Cynthia (Christian) Kinnear Menkal of Carmel; brother Ian of Wailuku, Maui; nieces and nephews.
Service at 2 p.m., on Saturday, Dec. 12, at Waimea United Church of Christ. Donations can be made to Apple Seed Ministries Group, Nana’s House.
Merilyn Costa
Merilyn Marie Iida Costa of Waimanalo died Nov. 30, 2009, in Honolulu at age 74. Born in Lihu‘e, she was a retired Koolau Farmers sales associate.
She is survived by her sons Frank Valdez, Ricardo Caminos and Steven Costa; daughters Celeste Gabriel, Cathy Potts and Tina Cord; sister Jennis Christian; 22 grandchildren and 16 great-grandchildren.
Visitation at 9 a.m., services at 10 a.m., on Friday, Dec. 18, at St. George Church at Waimanalo. Scattering of ashes at 1:30 p.m., at Kaiona Beach Park.
Loose flowers welcome; aloha attire requested.
