Jose Valdez III
Jose Corrales Valdez III of Apple Valley, Calif., died Dec. 6, 2009, at Wilcox Memorial Hospital at age 48. Born on May 21, 1961, in Namuac Sanchez-Mira, Cagayan, Philippines, he was a physician assistant at High Desert Primary Care.
He is survived by his parents Jose and Clavelina Valdez; wife Myrtle Valdez; son Jordan Valdez; brothers Fred (Luz) Valdez and Walter (Meldon) Valdez; sisters Lorna (Rolando) Valdez Arafiles and Meha (Todd) Valdez Ewing; mother-in-law Gladys Sitompul; sisters-in-law Genevieve (Fred) Nelwan and Minerva Sitompul; numerous nieces and nephews.
A memorial service will be in California.
Arrangements are being handled by Borthwick Kaua‘i Mortuary.
Paula Cadaoas
Paula Yadao Cadaoas of ‘Oma‘o died Dec. 6, 2009, at Wilcox Memorial Hospital at age 79. Born on July 6, 1930, in Kilauea, she retired as a district court clerk with the judiciary court.
She was preceded in death by her son Steven S. Cadaoas; parents Apolinario and Ambrocia Yadao; sisters Eleanora Basuel, Esmenia Barba, Felipa Manuel, Gloria Acoba and Florentina Fedalizo; brother Cesario Yadao.
She is survived by her husband Santiago Q. Cadaoas of ‘Oma‘o; daughters Della (Charlie) Silva of Koloa, Kathleen Cabral of Lawa‘i and Valerie (Calvin) Lagazo of Waimea; sisters Solidad Pasion of Hanama‘ulu, Veronica (Bob) Cook of Wailua Homesteads and Karen Guillermo of Hanama‘ulu; grandchildren Shawn (Dawn) Silva of ‘Oma‘o, Sheldon (Stacie) Silva of Utah, Tiffany Cabral of Las Vegas, Nicole (Don) Okami of Las Vegas, Kanoe (Troy) Hayden of Lihu‘e, Amber Cabral of Lihu‘e, Ashley Lagazo of Arizona, Vakeesha Lagazo of Waimea; great-grandchildren Shaylyn and Hailey Silva of ‘Oma‘o, Colby and Braxton Silva of Utah, Tynoa Shigemoto of Las Vegas, Zayden and Mason Okami of Las Vegas, Ethan and Sierra Hayden of Lihu‘e, Makoa Vanaman of Lihu‘e and Mikela Ginevra of Arizona; numerous nieces, nephews and cousins.
Visitation from 8:30 to 10:45 a.m., Mass at 11:15 a.m., on Saturday, Dec. 12, 2009, at Holy Cross Church. Burial will follow at 12:45 p.m., at Kaua‘i Memorial Gardens.
Arrangements are being handled by Kaua‘i Memorial Gardens and Funeral Home.
Stanley Nakaya
Stanley Hiromi Nakaya of Hilo died Nov. 24, 2009, at his home at age 58. Born on Aug. 31, 1951, in Toyohashi Air Force Base, Japan, he was a Rooster of the Hilo Jaycees.
He is survived by his sons Randal Nakaya of Hilo and Grant Nakaya of Flagstaff, Ariz.; mother Aiko Nakaya of Makaweli; brothers Allan (Ann) Nakaya of Las Vegas, Nev., Clyde Nakaya of Makaweli and Glenn (Keiko Aoyama) Nakaya of Honolulu; numerous nieces, nephews and cousins.
Service at 4 p.m., on Wednesday, Dec. 16, at Puna Hongwanji Mission in Kea‘au.

Gail Miller
Gail K. Miller of Kekaha died Nov. 29, 2009, at her home at age 54. Born on March 5, 1955, in Seattle, Wash., she was an interior designer.
She was preceded in death by her sister Sharon Kinnear.
She is survived by her son Raymond Miller of Kekaha; parents Ian and Ida Kinnear of Spreckelsville, Maui; sister Cynthia (Christian) Kinnear Menkal of Carmel; brother Ian of Wailuku, Maui; nieces and nephews.
Service at 2 p.m., on Saturday, Dec. 12, at Waimea United Church of Christ. Donations can be made to Apple Seed Ministries Group, Nana’s House.
