Editor’s note: From now through Dec. 24, The Garden Island will share stories of families who could use a little holiday cheer along with an appeal for monetary donations of any size. Funds raised will be distributed to needy families by Zonta Club members, who purchase gift certificates at appropriate businesses to help make these simple wishes come true. Because of logistical limitations, only monetary donations can be accepted.
Parents would appreciate toys
Joshua is an 18-month-old child who has required surgery due to feeding difficulties. Joshua lives with his parents and siblings in a small home. He receives therapy from Easter Seals Kaua‘i due to developmental delays and medical follow up off island. Due to financial strain the parents would appreciate clothing or toys for Joshua as they have been unable to purchase these things her him. (D9)
Diapers for Devin
Devin is a 5-month-old premature child with serious feeding disabilities. Devin lives with his mother in a small shared living situation. He receives therapy from Easter Seals Kaua‘i due to developmental delays and medical follow up off island. Due to financial circumstances mother has been unable to purchase diapers and new clothing for Devin and would very much like to provide things for Devin. (D10)
Family could use help
Mary is an almost 3-year-old girl who lives with her mom, dad and two older siblings, Kurt, 16, and Suzie, 8. Her dad has a hard time finding a job so it’s been really tough. Mary has developmental delays so she is receiving therapy services from Easter Seals. The family could use help with purchasing toys, food and household items. (D11)
Any assistance appreciated
Larry is almost 31 months old with a speech delay. He lives with his mom, dad and younger sister, Lucy, 4 months old. Mom catches the bus to work in the late afternoon and finds a way home at night. They do not have the funds at the moment to repair the car. Larry receives Early Intervention therapy from Easter Seals. His family would appreciate any assistance to buy food, toys and household items. (D12)

Mari is an 11-month-old child born with a medical condition that causes her to have delays in all areas of development. She lives with her mom and dad. Dad stays at home to care for her due to her health condition. Mari receives Early Intervention therapy from Easter Seals. Her family would appreciate any assistance to buy food, toys and household items. (D13)

Derek is a 33-month-old child with speech delays. He recently moved to Kaua‘i from the Marshallese and lives with his parents and seven siblings. Derek receives Early Intervention therapy from Easter Seals. His family came to Kaua‘i with very few belongings and would appreciate any assistance to buy food, toys and household items. (D14)
