Kaua‘i artist and teacher Penny Nichols will conduct three classes in the art of portraiture at Island School Nov. 27 and 28.
These small classes are designed for teens and adults of all levels of experience.
Beginners are encouraged to attend. Each session will include drawing demonstrations, individual instruction, models and all of the necessary art supplies.
Classes are limited to 12 students and tuition is $40 for each three-hour class.
The Nov. 27 class will be 5:30 until 8:30 p.m. and will focus on drawing the portrait in black and white, using charcoal or graphite.
The Nov. 28 classes is from 9 a.m. to noon or 1 p.m. to 4. The morning session will focus on color portraiture, using pastels. Students may use soft pastels or oil pastels. The afternoon class will learn to paint the portrait using watercolors.
An O‘ahu native, Nichols has made her home on Kaua‘i for 36 years and is well known for her portraits and landscapes in pastel, watercolor, and oil.
A guest artist for the Department of Education’s Artist-in-the-Schools program for ten years, she has been the art teacher at Island School since 2000.
