LIHU‘E — Kaua‘i’s Chance Bukoski, now the top goal scorer for Hawai‘i Pacific University, game up with a dramatic game-winning goal in the final moments of a 2-1 win over Dominican University, Tuesday in Kaneohe.
With the match tied at 1-1 and little time left, Bukoski, a Kapa‘a High School graduate, got hold of a loose ball inside the Dominican goal box and finished off his ninth goal of the season. The one-goal margin stood up and HPU improved to 8-2-1 on the season, with a 5-2-1 mark in the PacWest.
Kainoa Kahui got the scoring started with a goal in the 24th minute, but the lead was not safe for long as Dominican’s Pedro Guevara tied up the match just moments later.
Bukoski, who was named PacWest Player of the Week for Sept. 21-27, now has eight of his nine goals in conference play.
The men’s victory was the first game of a doubleheader played in rainy conditions at HPU’s Atherton Field. The Lady Sea Warriors followed suit with a 4-1 win over Dominican, completing the perfect afternoon.
Dyanne Anderson scored two goals, giving her eight on the season, as the women moved to 7-5-1 overall and 5-3 in conference play.
The Sea Warriors are back on the pitch Thursday, with another home doubleheader against Dixie State College. The women kick things off at 1:30 p.m.
